BEST (Board of European Students of Technology) is a non-profit and volunteering European organisation for students of technology. Since 1989, we have been creating a growing, dynamic, innovative and well-organised network of students, which provides complementary education for students by encouraging communication, cooperation and exchange of students in the exclusive technical universities and faculties. Our priority is to offer high-quality services to technical students from all over Europe.

About the course

The newest edition of BEST Porto’s Academic Course is coming. This time, from August 31st to September 9th, 16 applicants from all over the country will have the unique opportunity of receiving formation, share ideas and learn about cybersecurity, while meeting (or rediscovering) the city of Porto.
Are you interested in hacking or IT? In defending yourself from online attacks? Or do you want to understand what really goes on behind movie-like espionage?
Whatever the reason may be, these will be the themes explored in this 10-day long course: “007: License to Hack” and areas like Informatics, Computing Engineering and Computer Science will be addressed.
The participants will finish this course with a general understanding regarding computer security, more specifically hacking and network security. All this will be accomplished through enthusiastic lectures, workshops and an evaluation in the format of a competition or case study to put into practice what you have learned.

What to know before applying

This course is intended for higher education students from courses related to technology (Engineering or Sciences). It is also expected that the participants have basic knowledge about programming, in order to get the most out of what this course has to offer.
The participants are selected through a motivation letter, in which they show certain information about themselves (such as originality, interest in the topic and disposition to have fun and meet new people) and through answering some questions.
The fee has a value of 55.00€ and covers lodging, transportation and meals (three meals per day, at least one of them hot) throughout the entire course. Besides that, there will also be a 35.00€ deposit to confirm the registration in the course. This deposit will be reimbursed after the end of the course.
If this course piques your interest and you think you fit these criteria, just apply!

As usual, the course will mostly occur in Porto, the northern city at the mouth of Douro River. It is the second largest metropolitan area in the country and has won numerous awards as a travel destination, such as being elected the World’s Leading City Break Destination 2020.

Known as the “Cidade Invicta” (which means “unvanquished city”, for withstanding a siege for over one year), Porto is a city with a rich history, culture and gastronomy. There, you can eat the famous “Francesinha”, taste Port wine and get to know the warm and welcoming residents.
The city always captivates whoever sets foot in it and this course will surely show its true essence to you, or make you discover even more about it, if it’s not your first visit.

Safety Measures

In order to ensure to the maximum the security of the participants and the organizers during the event, we adapted this edition through various measures, including:

  • The participants and organizers will perform two rounds of antigen tests for the detection of COVID-19 (one in the beginning and another around the middle of the event);
  • Reducing the number of participants and organizers present during the event, to ensure the safety distance and avoid infection;
  • The use of face mask is mandatory for the whole duration of the event, with the exception of moments of sleep, meals and hygiene;
  • Participants must bring proper face masks and hand sanitizer;
  • We ensure that all the rooms used during the event have proper ventilation;
  • Our team is responsible for cleaning and disinfecting the common spaces at the end of each day;
  • The activities will be adapted so that the entire event is realized safely.
